1 c. shortening
1 c. buttermilk

1 1/2 tsp. cloves

Cream the butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time.

Sift flour before measuring, then add spices and salt to the flour. Dissolve soda in buttermilk and add alternately with dry ingredients to the creamed mixture.

Add jam last. Bake in lightly greased Teflon tube pan (angel food cake pan) at 325u00b0 about 2 hours. Treat like fruitcake. Store 1 month before eating.
