1/2 cup shortening
2 cups sugar
5 eggs, separated to yolks & whites
1 tsp baking soda
2 cups flour
1 cup buttermilk
1 tsp vanilla

1 cup coconut
Frosting:
1 ounce cream cheese
1/2 cup margarine or shortening
1 pound powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla

Mix baking soda with the flour. And the flour and buttermilk to the creamed butter mixture - adding each alternately beginning and ending with the flour mixture.

Bake in 3 nine inch round pans at 350 about 20 minutes or until done (test with a toothpick).
