Cake Batter-Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees

Sift flour three (3) times with salt and baking powder. Beat egg whites at high speed to soft peaks. At low speed add sugar gradually. Add shaved chocolate. Beat egg yolks and add with vanilla. Add sifted dry ingredients gradually. Pour into two (2) or three(3)greased and floured cake pans. Bake in a pre-heated 350 degree oven for approx 20 min or until toothpick comes out clean. Cool.

Cake filling- Scald milk: combine sugar and flour and salt.Add to milk and cook slowly til thick, stirring constantly. Chill. Cream butter, add sugar and beat well. Add chilled filling to creamed mixture and beat til fluffy. Add vanilla. Fill and frost cake layers and sprinkle with nuts. Refrigerate til serving time.
