4 carrots, quartered

1 qt. water
1 bay leaf
1/2 tsp. thyme
1/2 tsp. basil
10 peppercorns
1 Tbsp. salt
4 chopped celery stalks
6 sprigs parsley, chopped

Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a heavy skillet.

Add onion and garlic and cook over low heat.
