   Add water to raisins and boil 5 minutes.

   Cool.

   Stir in soda and let stand.

   Cream shortening and sugar.

   Add vanilla, eggs and cooled raisins with the liquid.

   Then add flour sifted with baking powder and salt, cinnamon and nutmeg.

   Stir in nuts and drop on baking sheet by teaspoonful.

   Bake 12 to 15 minutes in 425u00b0 oven.
