Heat 1 cup of the milk until lukewarm. Mix the flour, 1/3 cup sugar, yeast and 1/2 tsp salt in a bowl. Make a well in the center and add the milk, 2 eggs and butter. Mix the flour in from the edges, and bring together to form a dough. Knead for about 8 mins until smooth, cover and leave in a warm place for 1 1/2 hours to rise.

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface, knead briefly then divide into 16 pieces. Shape the pieces into ovals and place on 2 lined baking sheets. Make 2 lengthwise cuts in each and leave in a warm place for 45 more mins.

Preheat the oven to 400u00b0F. Beat together the remaining 1/4 cup of milk and the egg yolk and brush over the rolls. Sprinkle with the the remaining sugar and bake for 8-10 mins until golden. Serve with butter and jam.
