1
Make the push pin ready.
-
2
You can use a thumb tack, too, but it's harder to grip.
-
3
Pierce the rounded end of the egg with the pin while turning it round and round.
-
4
Pierce it completely, then remove the pin.
-
5
It looks like this.
-
6
The inside of the egg won't come out.
-
7
Put the eggs in boiling water.
-
8
Not cold water, boiling hot water.
-
9
This is the key.
-
10
Here's an 8-minute egg.
-
11
It's a bit softer than soft-boiled.
-
12
A 9-minute egg.
-
13
It's perfectly soft-boiled.
-
14
A large egg boiled for 10 minutes.
-
15
Boiled for 12 minutes.
-
16
Can you see the differences between boiling for 8, 9, 10 and 12 minutes?
-
17
These 10-minute eggs were all successfully peeled.
-
18
There's no need to put the eggs in cold water.
-
19
Sometimes the shell cracks when the eggs are boiling!
-
20
(And sometimes the white leaks a bit from the hole.)
-
21
If you are not going to peel the eggs immediately, I recommend putting them in cold water.
-
22
Continued - if you leave the eggs as-is without putting them in cold water, the hot water inside the egg may evaporate and the membrane may get stuck.
-
23
If you leave the eggs without putting them in cold water, the yolk may continue cooking in residual heat.
-
24
So if you want soft-boiled eggs, I recommend putting them in cold water.
