Stir in milk and mix thoroughly with a wooden spoon.

Bring mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly.

Let the mixture boil, stirring occasionally, until it reaches a temperature of 234u00b0 or until a small amount of the mixture can be formed in a soft ball after being dropped in a cup of cold water.

Remove from heat, add butter and vanilla.

Do not stir.

Cool at room temperature to 110u00b0 (pan barely warm to touch).

Beat with wooden spoon until fudge begins to thicken and lose gloss.

Stir in pecans and quickly spread in the prepared pan.
