Ex Mil'S Best Sugar Cookies

   Cream butter and sugar in stand mixer. (Can also make a hand mixer work if necessary.)

   Mix in egg.

   With mixer going, add remaining ingredients--be sure to add flour slowly.

   Cover dough and chill for several hours or overnight.

   Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees F (325 F if using a dark cookie sheet).

   Flour work surface and roll out dough. Go easy on the flour or cookies will be tough. Remove only as much dough as you can roll out at a time; leave the rest in the fridge.

   Cut into shapes, place on cookie sheet.

   Bake for 7 to 10 minutes. Cookies should be barely golden at the edge when ready.

   Let cool completely, then decorate. A simple confectioners icing is best (powdered sugar and a little hot water).
