1/2 c. sugar
1/2 lb. shortening (part butter)
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. lemon extract
3 eggs, well beaten
1/2 tsp. soda
3 c. sifted flour
3 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 lb. chopped dates
1 c. coarsely chopped nuts

Cook pineapple and 1/2 cup sugar in small, heavy pan, uncovered, until thick, stirring often. Cook 20 minutes or more. Cream shortening and sugar; add flavorings and beaten eggs.

Stir the soda into the pineapple and add to creamed mixture with half the sifted dry ingredients.

Stir in dates and nuts and then the remaining dry ingredients.

Chill for 20 minutes.

Drop by spoonfuls on greased and lightly floured baking sheet.
