1/4 c. shortening
1 tsp. baking soda

In a large saucepan, put raisins and 1 cup water.

Bring to a boil, turn down heat and simmer 15 minutes.

Add shortening, let melt.

Add 1/2 cup cold water, sugar, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, salt and baking soda.
