1
Remove the skin of the apples and cut them in quarters.
-
2
Put them in a pan with a shallow layer of water (about 2 centimeters) on medium heat.
-
3
As soon as the water boils, turn the heat down low.
-
4
Let it cook for about 15-20 minutes or untill the apples have completely fallen apart and formed a thick mixture.
-
5
Dont forget to keep stirring so it doesnt burn and add extra water if it the sauce thickens before all the apples are completely dissolved.
-
6
When its almost done, add the sugar and cinnamon and stir together well.
-
7
I use quite a lot of cinnamon, but you can add as much as you like of both the cinnamon and sugar.
-
8
Now for the secret trick: add a tiny bit of ground nutmeg, about the size of the tip of a knife, and a little nub of butter.
-
9
Take the applesauce off the stove and put it in a bowl.
-
10
You can either let it cool down and preserve it, or eat it hot with, for instance, vanilla ice cream.
-
11
Its heavenly!

For a real autumn-y feeling, I recommend adding raisins and dried cranberries at the end (make sure to let them stand in a bowl of hot water for 15 minutes) and, if you like, a little bit of pumpkin spice, too.
