Combine milk, sugar and lemon peel in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Gradually stir in rice. Reduce heat to low; simmer, covered, about 40 mins or until rice is tender, stirring occasionally. Discard lemon peel.

Meanwhile, for the dried fruit compote, place dried fruit, honey and 2 cups water in medium saucepan. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low; simmer, uncovered, 15 mins. Remove from heat.

Blend cornstarch with 1 tbsp water in small bowl. Stir in egg yolks. Stir in a heaping tablespoon of the hot creamed rice then pour egg mixture into creamed rice. Stir on medium heat until mixture boils and thickens. Stir in vanilla extract. Remove from heat. Let stand 15 mins before serving with compote.
