Grease a 9 x 13-inch (23 x 33 cm) pan with shortening.

Place cooling rack on countertop.

Combine shortening, brown sugar, milk and vanilla in large bowl.

Beat at medium speed of electric mixer until well blended.

Divide remaining dough into measuri ng teaspoonfuls (5 mL) and drop evenly over the caramel layer.

Bake at 350 F (180 C) for 25 to 30 minutes or until golden brown.

Loosen from sides of pan with knife.
