Ingredients: 1 c. chopped dates; 1 1/2 c. boiling water; 1 tsp. soda; 1/2 c. shortening; 1 c. white sugar; 2 eggs; 1 3/4 c. flour; 1/4 tsp. salt; 3/4 tsp. soda; 1 pkg. chocolate chips; 1/4 c. white sugar; 1/2 c. chopped nuts

Boil dates in water until soft.

Remove from heat and add soda.

Stir; set aside to cool.

Cream shortening with sugar.

Add eggs and cooled date mixture.

Add flour, salt and soda.

Mix well. Pour into greased 9 x 12-inch pan.

Top with chocolate chips, sugar and nuts.

Bake at 350u00b0 for 30 minutes.
