2 cups boiling water

1/16 teaspoon garlic powder
1/16 teaspoon ground black pepper
Grated cheese, Parmesan, Cheddar or Monterey Jack

Fry bacon until crisp in the saucepan used for making the soup.

Remove bacon.

Add onion to hot bacon fat and saute until limp.
