Caramel Bars – a delicious recipe with butter, sugar, egg yolks, flour, baking powder, condensed milk. Easy to follow and perfect for any occasion.

To make the base: cream the butter and sugar in a mixing bowl.

add the egg yolks and mix well.

add the sifted flour and baking powder and mix well.

press into a greased jelly roll pan.

to make the caramel filling: combine all the ingredients in a saucepan and stir over low heat until dissolved.

do not allow to boil.

spread over the base.

to make the meringue: whip the egg whites until stiff but not dry.

gradually add the sugar, beating continuously.

spoon over the caramel.

bake in a 350 f.

oven for 50 minutes.

note: if the meringue is becoming too brown, cover with a sheet of wax paper halfway through the cooking period.
