   Mix cornstarch with a little cool root beer till smooth.

   Heat rest of root beer in a medium-size pot.

   Heat root beer till it reaches about 90 degrees, 'chocolate dip' temperature on a candy thermometer.

   (There will be bubbles which rise from the root beer.

   Which is carbonation escaping.)

   Stir cornstarch mix into hot root beer.

   Continue heating for two min, stirring all the while.

   Then add in butter.

   When it reaches a boil, let mix boil for one minute.

    Then take it off the stove, and serve the butterbeer in mugs.
