1 1/2 c. applesauce
1/2 c. nuts
1 c. sugar
4 Tbsp. hot water
1 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. raisins
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. nutmeg

Cream sugar and Crisco, using 2 tablespoons hot water, then add the well beaten egg.

Stir in applesauce.

Mix the soda in the applesauce; add raisins and nuts.

Sift dry ingredients (pastry flour, salt, cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg).

Add to mixture and mix well.

Add 2 more tablespoons hot water.

If you use spring wheat flour, use only 2 cups.
