1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 cup unsweetened apple sauce
2 cups sifted flour, reserve 1/4 cup to dredge
2 tsp. soda
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup raisins, chopped or whole

Cream sugar and butter. Add eggs, beat well. Sift together flour, soda, cloves and cinnamon. Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture. Alternatively with applesauce, fold in raisins and nuts dredged with half cup flour. Serve in greased floured loaf pan. Bake one hour at 350 degrees.
