All American Barbecued Chicken Recipe

   For sauce, in a saucepan cook onion in warm oil till onion is tender.

   Stir in catsup, water, vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and bottled warm pepper sauce.

   Bring to boiling; reduce heat.

   Simmer, uncovered, about 15 min or possibly to desired consistency.

   Meanwhile, break wing, hip, and drumstick joints so chicken pcs lie flat.

   Twist wing tips under back.

   Grill chicken, skin side down, on an uncovered grill directly over medium coals for 20 min.

   Turn chicken; grill for 15 to 20 min more or possibly till chicken is tender and no longer pink.

   (Or possibly, place chicken on the unheated rack of a broiler pan.

    Broil 5 to 6 inches from the heat for 28 to 32 min, turning once.)

    Brush with sauce during the last 10 min of grilling or possibly broiling.

    Heat remaining sauce till bubbly; pass with chicken.
