Ingredients: 1 pkg. bean mix; 2 Tbsp. salt; 2 qt. water; ham, ham hock or ring of smoked sausage, chopped; 1 large chopped onion; 1 large can tomatoes; 1 tsp. chili powder; 1 Tbsp. lemon juice; 1 clove minced garlic; salt and pepper to taste

1 pkg. bean mix
2 Tbsp. salt
2 qt. water
ham, ham hock or ring of smoked sausage, chopped
1 large chopped onion
1 large can tomatoes
1 tsp. chili powder
1 Tbsp. lemon juice
1 clove minced garlic
salt and pepper to taste

Wash bean mix thoroughly; place in pot and cover with water and 2 tablespoons salt.

Soak overnight.

In the morning, drain and add 2 quarts water.

Add ham, ham hock or sausage.

Bring to boil.

Simmer slowly for 2 1/2 hours.

Add onion, tomatoes, chili powder, lemon juice, garlic and salt and pepper.

Simmer slowly 30 minutes.

A can of stewed tomatoes can be added instead of regular tomatoes (adds a special taste).

Serve with salad and crackers or corn bread.
