White Chocolate Pear Skulls

   Think about your skull designs first, using small-sized candy, nuts and colorful edible ingredients (I used cranberries, sunflower seeds, dyed almonds, chocolate chips and crushed peanuts).

   Insert a wooden stick in the center of each pear, poking it through the core from the narrower end.

   Melt the white chocolate in the microwave (heat for 30 seconds at a time, stirring between additional increments) or in the top of a double boiler with simmering water in the bottom.

   Dip the pears into the white chocolate, rolling to cover the entire pear and letting excess chocolate drip off. Set pears on a sheet of parchment paper.

   Wait until chocolate solidifies a little bit then hold each pear horizontally with the stick and start putting your decorations on the flat part of the pear in the shape of skull faces. Do this as quickly as possible before the weight of the decorations makes them slip.

   Set them on a tray. Stick your pears in the fridge as soon as you are done and wait for 20 minutes or so before serving them. Enjoy!

   I was inspired by the caramel/candied apples that people usually eat around this time of year and by the Dia de los Muertos festivity.
