3 lbs. beef short ribs
2 cans tomatoes, undrained (1 pound 12 ounce. size)
2 teaspoon salt
2 bay leaves
Vegetables as desired - 3 c. (green beans, corn, Lima beans, e.g.)
1 c. minced onion
1/2 c. barley (raw)
1/2 teaspoon oregano
1/2 teaspoon basil
1 clove garlic, crushed

Put ribs, tomatoes, salt, bay leaves and 1 qt water into large kettle.

Cover and bring to boil.

Reduce heat and simmer 2 hrs, covered.

Add in vegetables, onion, barley, herbs and garlic.

Simmer, covered, one hour or possibly till vegetables are tender.
