Set an indoor grill or griddle pan to medium high and spray liberally with cooking spray.

To make the optional sauce, to a bowl, add sauce ingredients and stir well.

Set aside.

Form ground meat into thin patties.

Season with salt and pepper on both sides.

Cook on the grill or griddle pan to desired doneness (we like ours medium well)/ Add cheese to each patty and cook until cheese has melted.

Remove from grill.

Add onion slices to grill and cook 2 minutes each side.

To assemble burgers, add optional sauce (or your favorite condiments) to the bottom of each roll.

Add a patty, onion slice, another burger patty, another onion slice, followed by a third patty.

Spread more sauce on the top bun if desired.
