1 1/2 cups shortening
1 1/2 cups sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
4 large eggs
3 teaspoons vanilla
4 3/4 cups flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
18 ounces chocolate chips
1 1/2 cups chopped walnuts or 1 1/2 cups pecans

Add eggs and vanilla and beat well.

Add dry ingredients and mix (if this is too much batter for your electric mixer, you may have to finish mixing in dry ingredients by hand.) Stir in nuts and chips by hand.
