1/2 c. oatmeal
4 tsp. artificial sweetener
1 egg
2 small bananas, mashed
1 c. chopped dates or raisins
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 c. nuts (optional)

Pour boiling water over dates; let cool and drain.

Brown oatmeal in oven on cookie sheet.

Cream shortening; add egg and sweetener and beat well.

Add combined dry ingredients (oatmeal, flour, soda, spices and nuts).

Add remaining ingredients (bananas and dates) and mix well.
