For the toasties:

Preheat oven to 400F.

Mix flour, sugar, and salt in a large bowl.

Using a pastry blender or your fingers, cut in margarine so that it resembles coarse crumbs or pea-sized pieces.

Sprinkle 2 tablespoons water over flour mixture; add remaining tablespoons as needed so that dough holds together when pressed.

Shape dough into 2 balls.

Chill for 30 minutes if too soft to roll out.

Shape each ball into a triangle shape and roll out into a rectangle approximately 9x12 inches.

Cut into 12 equal pieces.

On 6 pieces, place a spoonful of jam.

Whisk egg and brush the remaining 6 pieces.

Sandwich a jam piece with an egg piece, egg side in.

seal edge tightly with a fork or by pinching.

Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
