Sour Cream Cake

   Grease and flour 2 (8-inch) cake pans. Set oven on 350u00b0F. Sift flour, soda, cream of tartar, and salt together. Set aside. Cream butter and sugar until smooth and shiny. Add egg and vanilla, beat until light and fluffy. Add flour mixture and sour cream alternately in 2 to 3 portions, beginning and ending with flour.

   Pour evenly in prepared cake pans. Bake 20 minutes. Cool in pans for 5 minutes then turn out onto racks. Frost with buttercream frosting.
