   If you're like the guy who couldn't afford to drown his troubles over the high cost of living, hark to Shrdlu's recipe for do-it-yourself wine at $.89 a gallon.

   You'll need a 1 gallon jug, sterilized, 1 cake of yeast, crumbled ($.09), 4 cups of sugar ($.25), 1 large can frozen grape juice ($.45) and 1 large balloon ($.10).

   Put yeast, sugar and grape juice into jug and fill with water.

   Slip the balloon over mouth of jug, sealing the contents from the atmosphere.

   During fermentation, the balloon will inflate.

   When it deflates, the wine is ready.

   The process takes 6 weeks and produces a clear rosy beverage that tastes like pink Catawba.

   Shrdlu points out that if you re-use the balloon, the next gallon will cost only $.79.
