In a large mixing bowl, beat together sugar, sour cream, eggs and vanilla on low speed with an electric mixer until combined. Then beat on medium speed for two minutes.

Stir together flour, baking powder, soda and salt, add to sour cream mixture, beat on low speed until combined.

Stir in apple and 1/2 cup of the pecans. Turn into a greased 9x5x3 inch loaf pan.

Sprinkle with remaining pecans and press lightly into batter.

Bake at 350 for 55-60 minutes (test with toothpick).

Cool in pan on rack for 10 minutes. In a small pan combine butter and brown sugar.

Cook and stir until mixture comes to a boil.

Reduce heat and boil gently for one minute.

Remove bread from pan and drizzle with brown sugar mixture.
