Preheat the oven to 350u00b0F. Grease a 15 x 13 inch baking dish. Place the single egg yolk, orange zest, 3/4 cup butter, 2 1/3 cups flour, 3/4 cup sugar, 1 tsp vanilla extract and a pinch of salt in a bowl and knead with the dough hook of a mixer, then with your fingertips to crumble.

In a separate bowl, beat the remaining sugar, butter, and vanilla with a pinch of salt until foamy. Beat in the eggs one at a time. Mix the almonds, baking powder and remaining flour together, then beat into the sugar mixture. Pour into the pan and smooth the top. Arrange the plums on top and sprinkle with the crumble. Bake for 35 mins, until a skewer comes out clean. Cool and cut into 24 squares.
