Pastene 5-Minute Marinara (With 5-Second Option For Pizza Sauce)

   Heat a medium-sized saucepan over medium/high heat. When the pan is good and hot (start the clock, count down the 5 minutes, come on! Humor me!), add olive oil and garlic. Sizzle and stir the garlic for 30 seconds until translucent. Add the tomatoes, salt and pepper; stir well to combine. Bring to a boil (which happens almost instantly), then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 3-4 minutes. Turn off the heat and remove the pan from the burner. Stir in the basil leaves and serve.

   This makes enough sauce to serve with 1 pound of prepared pasta.

   This is what I use for pizza sauce-5 seconds to prepare and no cooking required, as the sauce cooks while it's on the pizza! Do use garlic powder as opposed to the fresh garlic for this version. Just mix the canned tomatoes, garlic powder, olive oil, salt and pepper, and basil together and spread onto pizza shells.

   Makes enough sauce to top 2 pounds of pizza dough, or 2 large pizza shells (with a little left over).
