   ["Fill gallon jar with washed whole cucumbers.", "Add salt, alum and pickling spices.", "Now pour vinegar (5%) over cucumbers. Finish filling jar with water.", "Put lid on tight and shake jar until all is dissolved.", "Date jar and let stand for 2 or 3 weeks.
