1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted

1/3 cup shortening
1/3 cup sugar
2 eggs, well-beaten
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
2/3 cup water

Melt the butter in the baking pan. Add the brown sugar and stir until the sugar is completely dissolved. Set aside to cool.
