In large bowl, beat butter with sugar until fluffy; beat in eggs, 1 at a time, just until incorporated.

In separate bowl, sift together flour, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, and salt; add to butter mixture alternately with coffee (make 2 additions of dry ingredients and 1 of coffee).

Beat until almost smooth.

Scrape into prepared pan; spread evenly.

Bake at 350F (180C) in center of oven until cake tester inserted in centre comes out clean, 45 to 57 minutes.
