Hush Puppies

   In mixing bowl, stir together egg, buttermilk, onion and 1/4 cup water; set aside.

   In large mixing bowl, combine cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, soda and 1 teaspoon salt.

   Add egg mixture to cornmeal mixture; stir just until moistened.

   Drop batter by tablespoonfuls into deep fat (375u00b0).

   Fry about 2 minutes or until golden brown, turning once.

   Drain on paper towel.

   Serve hot with butter or margarine if desired. Makes 24.
