1/2 teaspoon salt

2 tbsp. cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon almond extract

Beat Large eggs till thick and lemon colored; gradually add in 1 c. sugar, beating well.

Pour 2/3 c. batter into a greased and floured 9-inch square baking pan spreading proportionately.

Drain cherries, reserving juice.

Stir cherries into remaining batter.

Cold; cut cake into 3-inch squares.

Add in water to cherry juice to equal 1 c..

Combine remaining sugar and cornstarch in a saucepan.

Cook over low heat till clear and thickened.
