2 Tbsp. sour milk or buttermilk
1 lb. walnuts or pecans, chopped
1 lb. dates, chopped

Add egg yolks and vanilla and beat until light and fluffy.

Sift together flour, soda, salt and spices.

Add dry ingredients to egg mixture with sour milk. Blend well by hand.
