1
CAKE:
2
Prepare Devil's Food cake according to package directions in a 13 x 9 inch pan.
3
After the cake has cooled, cut cake in half horizontally so you have a top and a bottom. Use a serrated knife-I have seen Alton Brown use dental floss to cut cakes in half, but I have never tried it!
4
FILLING:
5
In a small saucepan, heat milk and gradually stir in flour. Continue to cook over medium high heat (stirring) until milk mixture is thick and smooth. Set aside and let cool.
6
While milk mixture is cooling; beat butter and shortening with a mixer until combined. Add sugar and the cooled milk mixture. Continue to beat until it reaches the consistency of Ho-Ho filling-you'll know!
7
FROSTING:
8
Combine powdered sugar and cocoa.
9
Melt butter.
10
In a mixing bowl, combine the cocoa and sugar with the melted butter. Continue to mix and gradually add milk.
11
Add vanilla. Your fudgy frosting is ready!
12
CONSTRUCTION:
13
Spread filling on the bottom half of the cake.
14
Add the top layer. It should look like a giant Suzy-Q now.
15
Frost all four sides and top with chocolate frosting.
