Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a baking mat and set aside.

In a large bowl using your stand mixer whip together butter and sugar. Set aside.

Finely grind the hazelnuts in a food processor. Then use your mixer to blend this and the vanilla into the butter and sugar mixture. Scrape sides of bowl and mix again. Stir in all of the flour until just incorporated.

Form about 2 tablespoons of dough into a circle on the prepared baking sheet. See related blog post for photos of this process. Repeat with remaining dough.

Bake for 8-10 minutes or until edges are barely golden. Cool on baking sheet for 2 minutes before removing cookies to a cooling rack. Dust tops of cookies with powdered sugar and place half a cherry onto each wreath. Serve.
