1 1/2 c. sugar
2 Large eggs, beaten (save 1 tbsp. to brush tops of hermits)
1/4 c. molasses
2 tbsp. water
3 c. flour, sifted
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon cloves
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 c. raisins
1/2 c. nuts, minced

Mix shortening, sugar, Large eggs, molasses and water together.

Add in all remaining ingredients and mix well.

Form 4 long strips on large greased cookie sheet.

Press flat with fingers.

Strips won't meet now but will come together during baking.

Brush with beaten egg which was saved.

Bake at 350 degrees for 18 to 20 min.
