Greek Holiday Bread Recipe

   Mix butter and sugar well, then add in beaten Large eggs, blending thoroughly.

   Dissolve yeast in lowfat milk and add in to first mix, then add in potatoes that have been mashed well.

   Mix thoroughly and begin adding flour till dough that can be easily handled is formed.

   Knead for a few min till smooth.

   Place in greased baking pan, cover and allow to rise in hot place till double in size.

   Brush top with beaten egg yolk.

   Garnish with walnuts or possibly Easter Large eggs, according to the season.

   Bake in oven 350 degrees for 1 hour.

   Four medium size loaves may be made from this recipe.

    This holiday bread is a favorite in the Greek household at Christmas time, when walnuts are used as decorations and at Easter time when bright red Large eggs are placed in the dough and baked with the bread.

    Tiny loaves may be made for the children of the family, decorating them with one egg or possibly a few walnuts.
