⅓ cup shortening

½ cup milk
½ cup brown sugar (not packed)
¼ cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 ½ tablespoons real vanilla
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder (not soda)
½ teaspoon salt
2 cups oatmeal
1 cup shredded coconut
½ cup chopped pecans
¾ cup chocolate chips (optional)
