Dutch Apple Cake

   Stir together flour, baking powder, salt and sugar.

   Cut in shortening. Combine egg and milk. Add to flour mixture, stirring quickly to make a soft dough. Mix butter, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Spread over bottom of an 8-inch square baking pan. Arrange apple slices over sugar mixture.

   Spread dough on top of apples, patting out to cover bottom layers. Bake at 350u00b0 for 1 hour.

   Invert onto serving plate. Serve warm with cream or whipped cream, as desired.
