Name: Date, Raisin, Chocolate Chip Cake

Ingredients: 1 (16 oz.) pkg. pitted dates; 1 handful raisins; 2 c. chocolate chips; 2 c. hot water; 1 c. shortening; 2 c. sugar; 2 tsp. vanilla; 4 eggs; 3 1/2 c. bread flour; 2 tsp. soda; 1 tsp. salt; 4 heaping Tbsp. cocoa

Chop dates and raisins.

Boil in the hot water and strain (save the water).

Cream the shortening, sugar and vanilla.

Add eggs, one at a time, and beat well.

Sift together the flour, soda, salt and cocoa.

Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture and alternate with water.

Beat well after each addition.

Add dates/raisins/chocolate chips.
