1
Cook 3/4 of the sliced onions in a pan with the butter on low heat.
-
2
Were going to soften them slightly while we prepare the Salisbury steaks!
-
3
In a large bowl combine ground beef with the whisked egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt/pepper and breadcrumbs.
-
4
(I had some croutons that were delicious.
-
5
They were homemade from a farmers market and I thought they would be good.
-
6
So I crushed those up.
-
7
A better quality breadcrumb makes a big difference.
-
8
If you choose to do the same, you can place them in a zip lock bag and roll a rolling pin over them until theyre very fine.)
-
9
Form the beef into 4 even-sized oval patties.
-
10
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.
-
11
Once hot add the patties.
-
12
Cook each side of the patties until slightly browned.
-
13
This will help the patty stay together as it cooks in the crockpot.
-
14
Add the French onion soup to the onion pan and continue to cook on low.
-
15
Place 1 can of cream of mushroom soup in the crockpot, add the Salisbury steaks, and then add the additional can of mushroom soup.
-
16
Pour onion soup mixture on top, and sprinkle on the remaining onion strings.
-
17
Put the lid on and turn the heat on low.
-
18
After about 2 hours, stir the sauce around until well combined.
-
19
Cook for a total of 3-4 hours on low.
-
20
I recommend serving with mashed potatoes or egg noodles and drizzling the extra sauce on top.
-
21
Serving with corn, peas, or green beans is also great.
