1. Lightly butter the bottom of the crockpot, as well as the sides.

2. Lay the apple slices at the bottom of the crockpot. Once you can no longer see the bottom, begin to layer them on top of one another.

3. Combine the brown sugar, flour, rolled oats, nutmeg and cinnamon in a medium sized bowl. Cut the butter into the mixture.

4. Sprinkle the topping (using your hands) over the base of apples. Put the lid on and cook on low for 4-5 hours (mine took 4 1/2).

5. Turn off the crockpot once the apples are cooked and leave the top on. Allow it to sit (still covered) for at least one hour. This gives it a chance to get crusty along the sides.

6. Use ground chocolate to sprinkle on top or eat it the way it is.
