Ingredients: 15 large cucumbers (peel, core and cut in 1/2-inch thick long fingers); 2 c. lime; 1 c. vinegar; 1 1/2 oz. red food coloring; 3 c. vinegar; 11 c. sugar; 1 (9 oz.) pkg. red hots; 8 1/2 c. water; 2 Tbsp. alum; water to cover; 3 c. water; 8 cinnamon sticks

15 large cucumbers (peel, core and cut in 1/2-inch thick long fingers)
2 c. lime
1 c. vinegar
1 1/2 oz. red food coloring
3 c. vinegar
11 c. sugar
1 (9 oz.) pkg. red hots
8 1/2 c. water
2 Tbsp. alum
water to cover
3 c. water
8 cinnamon sticks

Add lime to 8 1/2 cups water.

Add cucumbers and soak 24 hours.

Rinse 3 times to remove lime and leave in ice water for 3 hours.

Drain.

Combine 1 cup vinegar, alum and food coloring. Add cucumbers and cover with water.

Simmer 1 hour.

While mixture is simmering, mix 3 cups vinegar, 3 cups water, 11 cups sugar, cinnamon sticks and red hots.

Boil until melted.

Pour over drained cucumbers and let stand 12 hours.

Heat to boiling.
