To make the crust, in a large bowl, using an electric mixer, beat together the flour, 1/2 cup of the sugar, the butter and salt on medium speed until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Press the mixture firmly and evenly into the prepared pan. Bake for 20 minutes.

Meanwhile, make the filling: In a large saucepan over low heat, combine the corn syrups and chocolate. Heat, stirring, until the chocolate melts, then remove from the heat. Stir in the remaining 1 1/2 cups sugar, then the eggs and vanilla until blended. Stir in the pecans. Pour the filling over the hot crust and spread evenly. Bake at 350u00b0F until the filling is firm around the edges and slightly soft in the center, about 30 minutes. Cool in the pan or on a wire rack. Makes 48 bars.
